South Carolina Bill Promotes Solar Freedom!

Thanks to the recent Nuclear Plant debacle, South Carolina residents have turned to solar energy.

Just last week, the South Carolina House of Representatives passed a bill, Electric Consumer Bill of Rights Act, eliminating caps on residential solar power production. This is a major win for solar proponents across the state. As solar continues to gain popularity across the world and South Carolina, we have seen a spike in the demand for residential solar. Because solar is in such high demand, the passing of this bill will make residential solar more accessible for a larger group of customers, which will in turn produce more jobs. Utility companies will no longer be able to charge non-solar customers for losses the utility company incurs by those solar customers. This gives consumers the ability to financially qualify for solar at their locations.

Utility companies are concerned about eating excess costs produced by solar customers that they have previously been having non-solar customers pay for. This bill gives legislation time to evaluate the rapidly growing market and create new policy within the solar industry. News Channel 13 stopped by last week to get Jeff Thompson’s, owner, thoughts on the new bill passing.
