The family in Conway found that their bathroom was too dark and the current lighting was too strong. Since the bathroom had no windows, they wanted to bring in some natural light. After an energy evaluation by Carolina Energy Conservation, they decided that installing a solatube was the best option for their needs. Solatubes provide comfortable natural light and use Raybender 3000 Technology to maximize light capture year-round while blocking out harsh midday summer light. Additionally, they come with a solar-powered night light that turns on automatically at night, providing energy-efficient visibility.

This family will apply for the federal and state tax credit. More information on our website.

Job Stories From Horry County, SC
Additional Insulation and Spray Foam in North Myrtle Beach

Joe was interested in air sealing his attic space with spray foam insulation to help take some of the pressure off of his HVAC system. He gave Carolina Energy Conservation a call to schedule a free energy evaluation. After our comfort specialist went out to the home, he found that the homeowner needed much more than just spray foam insulation.

Unfortunately, spray foam insulation alone would not increase the overall comfort of Joe's home. Joe needed a higher R-value to help keep his indoor temperatures, inside of the home.

The CEC crew went out to the home, to help make Joe's living space more comfortable. Upon completing a full air seal of the attic, the crew installed fiberglass insulation to raise the overall R-value of the attic. Now, Joe is enjoying a nicely cooled home without any air leakages.

Is your crawl space keeping your home from being healthy?

This home's crawl space, like many others, was filled with moisture, mildew, and mold. The air in your crawl space gets filtered through your home, and if your crawl space isn't healthy, it's likely that your home is not either! For a crawl space like this, it is important to remove all of the old insulation, mold, and other things that have found their way in. We provided this home with a full insulation, encapsulation, and mold remediation.

This customer was very happy with the work that was done and gave the crew and foreman a 10/10. They added that the crew spent time explaining the process thoroughly and were very pleasant.

Dense Packing Solutions for Garage

Dense Packing Cellulose insulation in the walls will help to keep the garage comfortable year-round. In South Carolina, it is rare to see an insulated garage. If you use your garage for work or play, it is important to be comfortable! This customer is planning to use their garage as a place to keep their tools and work out, so they were interested in adding insulation to make the uncharacteristically cold weather here more bearable.

Duct Encapsulation Could Save You Money!

This customer like many others, felt their home was too cold in the winter, and too hot in the summer, even after getting their HVAC system serviced. Our team got into their attic and immediately realized the issue, their ducts were leaking. This is not only an issue that causes uncomfort in the home, but the cold and warm air mixing in your attic can also cause mildew and mold!

Our solution to this is to do a duct encapsulation. We take our closed cell spray foam and cover certain areas of the ducts that are prone to leaking. Customers that have this service notice a drastic difference in their HVAC performance, energy bills, and even the amount of dust in their homes!

Dark Home? No Longer!

Homeowners Mary and Ray built their Lakeside Crossing home in 2019, and quickly became Solatube lovers, installing two in their home, as well as an attic fan and garage fan. With the help of our Solatube Specialist Mary Moriarty and Peter Barczak, the homeowners installed two more tubes in their homes. Now their home has beautiful natural light flowing throughout.

Our Solatube Daylighting Systems are fitted with the most advanced technologies available, from the sunlight-capturing dome to the reflective tube. Our tubular skylights install quickly with no major modifications to the attic or roof. Our Solatubes now have a night light feature that uses integrated solar-electric technology to store and generate energy. Because of this solar technology, our Solatube products are eligible to receive a 51% tax credit on their project. How this works is that businesses and homeowners can receive up to 51% of what they spend on solar energy products back in tax credits from the IRS and the state of South Carolina. There is a 26% federal tax credit “rebate” and 25% state tax credit “rebate” to receive on tax returns the following year.

Solatube also has created solar ventilation solutions for attics and garages. Our attic fans prevent heat and moisture from reaching high levels in the attic which will help lower the home's energy bills and keep the home comfortable. The garage fan removes heat and fumes in the garage, making it a cool space to work on your car, your fitness, or your next great project.

ENCAPSULATE YOUR CRAWL SPACE TO UPGRADE YOUR HOME COMFORT!

After being recommended crawl space work by their pest inspector, these Murrells Inlet homeowners called us to come to take a look. Our senior specialist Joel Libby went out to help the homeowners through the process. Joel knew there was work to be done the minute he opened the access to the crawl space. There was falling batting insulation, animal droppings, groundwater seepage, and worst of all, mold. Joel spent some time in the crawl space taking measurements and pictures as he indicated some of the issues that the crawl space was facing. He then sat down with the homeowners to discuss a plan. With each issue that was found in the crawlspace, Joel explained the severity of the problem and recommended a service to fix it. The overall goal, that was decided by Joel and the homeowners, was the prevention of future damage from mold, rot, and odor in the crawlspace. Joel took the time to explain why these services are important, not only to eliminate pests and mold in your crawlspace, (because who is spending time in their crawlspace anyway), but to help the overall health of the home. Air from outside is pulled into the crawlspace and then rises through the home and out through the attic. If the crawl space isn’t properly sealed, the moisture from the humid air outside can cause serious structural damage to the home.

With a plan in place, the work begins. Our crawl space crew Edward, Tyler, and Jeff began this two-day job by tearing out all the fallen and moldy insulation and fumigating and killing the mold. A perimeter drainage system was installed to prevent moisture issues if water was to ever get into the crawlspace in a heavy rain instance, as well as a drainage mat to cover the whole floor of the crawlspace. The walls are then covered with our closed-cell foam board with a radiant barrier to insulate and reflect heat back into the crawlspace. The next step is installing a vapor barrier liner along the floor, around the pillars, and up the walls to seal off your crawl space from the outdoor conditions. The final step is to install a dehumidifier to circulate and condition the air in the crawlspace.

Our teams take pride in creating beautiful crawlspaces to help protect and upgrade the home. If you are interested in learning more on the topic, click this link to be taken to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Guide to Closing and Conditioning Ventilated Crawlspaces.

CRAWLSPACE ENCAPSULATION IN SOCASTEE, SOUTH CAROLINA

Making the appointment:

The customer called and requested an appointment for a crawlspace encapsulation and Socastee, South Carolina. The appointment center created the appointment and sent out Alex one of our sales team members. Alex sold a job so the team could start encapsulating the crawlspace.

The Challenge:

The challenge for this home is that it was built 20 years ago. A lot of the wiring for the house was located in the crawlspace. The team ripped out the old insulation in the crawlspace. The old insulation was falling apart and weathered due to old age.

The request:

A crawlspace is a shallow structure install directly into the dirt underneath a home. If you have utilities in your crawlspace such as a water heater, furnace, water pipe, your energy bills will suffer. This homeowner was hopeful that their energy bills would be better in the future and the fluctuation of the temperature would no longer force the heating and cooling systems to work harder causing the energy cost to rise.

Final outcome:

The craw space was encapsulated and the team worked hard for days getting it ready for the homeowner. After the encapsulation the homeowner was very happy and notified the team of low energy bills in after the instal finished.

Crawl space encapsulation in Myrtle Beach, SC

A Myrtle Beach homeowner needed work done on the home’s crawl space.

This was mostly a 2-step project which included treating/preventing mold in the crawl space and limiting airborne moisture.

First, to treat mold in the crawl space, Carolina Energy Conservation removed moldy and damaged insulation from the crawl space ceiling.

As part of the mold treatment, the CEC team applied an antimicrobial kill-agent.

Then, our team members installed a CleanSpace System. It’s a custom-fitted vapor barrier which is designed to decrease the impact of airborne moisture.

We added a dehumidifier system and a crawl space access panel with weather stripping.

These changes will help create a better and more ideal environment for this client’s crawl space.
