Crawl Space Transformation in Myrtle Beach, SC
Myrtle Beach has had some substantial rainfall this summer season to accompany the scorching heat and for one local customer, this was a troublesome duo. Michael was noticing that the insulation underneath his home was falling causing the climate inside his home to become uncomfortable. In hopes of having his crawl space insulation repaired, he gave Carolina Energy Conservation a call.
Comfort Specialist, Joel went out to the home to inspect Michael’s crawl space and found that most of the insulation was hanging down and copious amounts of mold had grown underneath their living space. Having mold in such a small space beneath your home can cause allergens and pollutants to come into the home through your air conditioning unit. From there, Joel decided to send in a crew to perform a mold remediation treatment and a full crawl space encapsulation. The crew removed the hanging insulation and performed a mold treatment with a botanical mixture called Moldex to eradicate the caked-on mold.
After the mold treatment was performed, the crew air sealed any openings with an expanding polyurethane foam to close off the space from the moist outdoor environment. Following the air seal, the crew fully encapsulated the crawl space with a seven layered vapor barrier. The vapor barrier we use is 20 mil thick and is naturally antimicrobial to prevent mold and mildew growth. It is made up of a blend of high and low-density polyethylene and polyester cord reinforcement that completely lines the crawl space. The CEC crew cleaned up Michael’s crawl space and sealed off the intense outdoor conditions. Now Michael is living in comfort in his home with more temperate floors and healthy, breathable air.
